Whether you are an advocate of green movement or not, there is no denying the fact that it is becoming integrated into our daily lives by the minute. And green inventors like Simon Wilby only make this process faster.

Simon Wilby’s invention, The Smart One, is well-positioned to take advantage of the growing market for green devices. Since it is solar powered, current and future markets will not find it hard to patronize his product.

The Smart One is an aftermarket solar powered battery that relies on light energy converted via plastic solar cells. This is a device that is attached to the back door of the cell phone battery. It collects and transforms light energy into battery charge. Unlike typical batteries, this one provides a more efficient energy source for cellular phones that can extend average talk time to as much as 300%.

Simon Wilby expects to sell his invention to the mainstream market in the near future. He is currently adding developments to The Smart One and soon, he hopes to find cell phone manufacturers who would be willing to adapt this technology for use in future phones. As of yet, the product is available as a replacement for cell phone batteries.

Simon Wilby, the CEO of Smart Power Inc. and inventor of the battery that runs on alternative energy called The Smart One, sees great opportunities in solar powered devices.

The Smart One was developed in late 2008 and was launched in Barbados in February 2009. Soon, Simon Wilby hopes to penetrate mainstream market with this new technology.

However, he has no plans of stopping there. He is currently entertaining the idea of using the same application for other gizmos and handy gadgets. In fact, he has already formulated a laptop skin that can make laptops run on solar power. This skin is a device that will be fitted on the back of the screen for more efficient collection of light energy.

Simon Wilby also has created a solar powered pool heating system called The Smart Pool. This is intended for extending the swimming season well beyond the coldest parts of the year. Meanwhile, plans are being arranged for the installation of solar powered street lights in some sections of Barbados. This is targeted at helping the local government save millions of dollars on electricity expenses.

With these current inventions, and the ones that are likely to come up soon, we could look forward to a future that uses solar energy for household and industrial use, thus reducing our dependence on the national power grid.

Simon Wilby has developed a lithium battery that can run on virtually any type of light sources – from solar power to ambient light – and can outperform conventional mobile phone batteries by as much as 300% in terms of talk time.

His invention, The Smart One, demonstrates that renewable energy source can be exploited to provide more efficient energy for portable devices like cellular phones. Through the use of the latest plastic solar cells that convert solar energy more efficiently than silicone solar cells, a cutting edge technology that is cleaner to the environment was born. Considering the potentials of this technology, Simon Wilby expects to find more applications for his solar powered invention.

Smart Power Inc. envisions using the same technology for other applications. In fact, application for patent is already underway for a solar powered skin that is to be integrated to laptops. This is anticipated to trim down the bulkiness of laptops by relying on solar panels that will be fastened to the back of screens. This skin should take care of the energy need of laptops as it is directly connected to the power port of the device. Similar applications are being planned for other gizmos and portable devices.

The Smart One will be ready for international commercialization soon. As of yet, Simon Wilby is looking to improve his invention before he plays the bigger market.

Harvesting solar energy for practical use is the hallmark of Simon Wilby’s invention, The Smart One.

The Smart One is an ideal replacement for standard cell phone batteries. Since it is made compact, it is not likely to cause any major modifications to the original design of the phone. Through a plastic solar cell that is affixed to the phone, light energy will be transformed into electric charge, which will then be relayed to the electrical circuitry of the phone.

But, unlike traditional solar panels, this one does not rely entirely on energy emitted by the sun. Simon Wilby indicates that even ambient light, moonlight, and other types of light sources are good enough to boost the battery’s charge. It does not have to be fully exposed to light sources either, thanks to the construction of the cells that permits full circuitry.

This simple yet innovative technology is expected to cover demand for ordinary cell phone chargers after it gets released to mainstream market. Simon Wilby’s creation can potentially revolutionize the way we charge our phone batteries, leading us to a trend where these bulky devices are a thing of the past. Indeed, The Smart One will hit prime time any time soon.
